May 30, 2009 - Saturday
6th ANNUAL FAMILY PRESENTATION BANQUET
5:00-9:00 pm @ Hotel Whitcomb 1231 Market St., San Francisco
Since 2004, Asian & Pacific Islander (A&PI)
Family Pride has organized its annual Family Presentation Banquet to
honor persons who have supported A&PI lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender (LGBT) persons throughout their journey of self-discovery
and coming out. The annual Family Presentation Banquet has honored over
60 mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents,
and numerous other accepting family members who have faced deep-rooted
homophobia in order to love and accept their LGBT relatives. The Banquet
is an opportunity to honor this private courage of public support.
We invite Asian & Pacific Islander LGBT individuals to nominate
these brave and accepting family members to honor at the 2009 A&PI
Family Pride Banquet. Click

API Family Pride's Family Honor Roll is a way of acknowledging the process that our families have undergone to overcome homophobia and understand and accept us as we are. This is a time to commend the private, personal struggles of love and transformation in our individual families with public acknowledgement from us, their children and a grateful community. |

May 26, 2009 Decision Day
The California Supreme Court's decision on whether
to overturn or uphold Proposition 8 will be announced on Tuesday, May
26.
The court will either uphold the Constitution, recognizing equal protection
under the law, or uphold discrimination, taking away fundamental civil
rights from a minority.
Regardless of what happens on Decision Day, this is an important opportunity
to come together as a community and show Californians that this is an
extraordinarily crucial issue not just to some but to all who value
civil rights.
Be Visible. Be Vocal. For Marriage Equality.

SF Chinese New Year Parade - Saturday, February 7, 2009
API for Marriage Equality Contingent
API Family Pride is one of many co-sponsors for the "API for Marriage Equality" parade contingent. Our contingent will feature a convertible decorated with flowers and garlands. Sitting in the convertible will be two of our family members, Trinity and Des who have been together for 23 years. They will wear their traditional Hawaiian wedding dresses made by their moms. They wore the dress when they were married about 10 years ago, then again in 2004 when San Francisco allowed gay marriages, and once more in 2008 when the state of California allowed gay marriages. They will put on that dress again this year especially for the Chinese New Year Parade. Our marchers will follow the couple in their convertible with pride. Complements of APIFP marchers will make noise with cow bells, after all it the Year of the Ox. Continget Details - Meeting time: 4:45 pm. Location: Market & Second Street. Attire: wear red or yellow top and dark pants.
